John Sadler

Trainer

Born: July 30, 1956

  • Sadler ventured out of Southern California for the first time in 2020, sending strings to Oaklawn Park and Churchill Downs. The barn would send out 15 winners from just 66 starts at the meet good enough for fifth in the trainer standings. He has won multiple training titles at Santa Anita, Hollywood Park and Del Mar.
  • He sent out Stellar Wind to victory in the 2017 Apple Blossom. In 2018, Oaklawn Handicap runner-up Accelerate, owned by top client Hronis Racing, would win the Breeders’ Cup Classic and earn the Eclipse Award for Champion Older Dirt Male that same year.
  • Has enjoyed great success with Hronis Racing in recent years and in addition to Accelerate, the graded stakes winners he’s trained for Kosta and Pete Hronis include Lady of Shamrock, Rising Legend, Hard Aces, Stellar Wind, Iotapa, Vagabond Shoes, Daddy D T and Elektrum.
  • Has won multiple training titles at Santa Anita, Hollywood Park and Del Mar.
  • Sadler was a former show jumper rider, who tried out for the U.S. Olympic Equestrian team. He got his start on the racetrack walking hots for trainer Tom Pratt at Santa Anita Park during his high school years before later attending the University of Oregon. Once his studies were complete, he returned to Southern California to work alongside the late Dr. Jack Robbins as his veterinary assistant.
